UNICEF/WHOのTen steps to successful breastfeedingでは

• Give no artificial teats or pacifiers (also called dummies or soothers) to breastfeeding infants.

とおしゃぶりなどをあげないことを推奨されている。

AAP（アメリカ小児科学会）のポリシーステートメントでも早期に使うのはどうかとなっている。

では700人の分析でExclusive breastfeeding at 4 weeks was less likely among infants exposed to pacifiers (early pacifier group; odds ratio: 1.5; 95% confidence interval: 1.0–2.0).と統計学的にはギリギリ。1ヶ月してからでは大丈夫なのであろう。
